Which format? EAN-13 is the one used by products sold in shops — it assumes a prefix allocated by GS1. For internal use — labelling crates, tracking stock, printing dish references — Code 128 accepts letters and digits with no formalities at all.

The 13th digit. On an EAN-13, the last digit is a check digit computed from the previous twelve. Type your twelve digits and the key is added for you. If you enter all thirteen and the code is refused, the key does not match.

PNG or SVG? SVG is a vector outline: it stays sharp at any size, and it is what a printer expects. The PNG is rendered at three times screen size, enough for a clean office printout — a blurred barcode does not pass a laser scanner.

Is this barcode generator free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. The codes carry no watermark and belong to you: you can print them and use them commercially.

Can I sell a product with an EAN-13 generated here?

Not with a made-up number. A barcode is only a drawing: what entitles you to sell in shops is the number itself, allocated to your company by GS1. This tool draws correctly the number you already own. For internal use — stock, inventory, labelling — no allocation is needed, and Code 128 is a better fit.

What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?

A barcode is linear: it holds around a dozen digits, is read by a laser scanner and identifies a product. A QR code is two-dimensional: it holds a full web address, is read by any phone, and takes you somewhere — a restaurant menu, for instance.

What print size should a barcode be?

An EAN-13 reads reliably from about 30 mm wide; below that, checkout scanners start to fail. Keep black bars on a white background with no pattern behind, and leave a clear margin left and right — it is part of the code.

Are my references sent anywhere?

No. The drawing is computed by your browser, on your device. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
