How it works

On Chrome, Edge and Android, reading uses the decoder built into the browser. Elsewhere — Safari, Firefox — a decoder is loaded at the moment you need it.

Nothing is sent. Neither the video stream, nor the image you drop, nor the content read leaves your device. There is no server in the loop.

The link is never opened on its own. A QR code can point anywhere: the content is shown in plain text first, and it is up to you to follow it.

The camera stops as soon as you leave the tab, and your device indicator light goes out with it.

Do I need an app to scan a QR code?
No. This page is enough, and most phones can also read a QR code straight from their camera app, with nothing to install.
Why does the browser ask for camera access?
Because the reading happens on your device: the browser must ask your permission before letting a page see the image. The stream is neither recorded nor transmitted, and the camera stops as soon as you leave the page.
The camera will not start, what should I do?
Check that you are on HTTPS — browsers refuse camera access otherwise — and that permission has not been blocked for this site. Failing that, take a photo or a screenshot of the code and drop it in the area provided.
Can I read a QR code from a screenshot?
Yes. Drop the image in the area provided, or pick it from your files. Crop close to the code if reading fails: a tiny QR in the middle of a large image is hard to locate.
Is it risky to scan an unknown QR code?
The scan itself is not. The risk lies in the link: a QR can lead to a phishing site. That is why this page always shows the content in plain text before offering to open it — read the address before you click.
