Cutting program

Cutting is not losing weight. It's about reducing fat mass while keeping the muscle mass built during your months of work. Here is the typical week, the dietary guidelines and the place of cardio in a real cutting program.

Cut without losing muscle
A cutting program pursues a specific objective: to reduce fat mass while retaining the muscle already built. This is what separates it from simple weight loss. You are not looking to see a number drop on the scale, you are looking to lose fat without affecting muscle fibers. Two levers act at the same time. The first is dietary: a moderate calorie deficit, located approximately 300 to 500 calories below your daily expenditure. The second is training: loads that remain heavy, demanding series, sufficient volume to give the body a reason to keep its muscle. A cutting phase that is too aggressive melts both at once, and the desired muscle definition never appears.
What to put on the plate
Research varies: cutting program, cutting program with the wrong emphasis, or even cutting program in the other direction. The logic behind these queries remains the same. It starts on the plate. Protein intake rises to approximately 1.8 to 2.2 g of protein per kilogram of body weight, as it is the nutrient that protects muscle tissue when energy is lacking. Carbohydrates don't disappear: they fuel intensity, especially around sessions. Lipids go down without ever falling too low. The rest comes from vegetables, fiber and water. Supplements come after, never before: they complement an already consistent diet, they do not replace it.
Do not sabotage your sessions
When it comes to training, the classic mistake is to transform everything: light loads, endless sets, shortened rests. This format burns calories but sends a bad signal to the metabolism. During a cutting period, keep the heavy work on the basic movements and accept that performance will stagnate a little. This is normal, the available energy is lower. Cardio is used to increase calorie expenditure without lengthening weight training sessions: two to three cardio sessions per week are often enough initially. Recovery becomes a parameter in its own right, because sleep and the time between sessions determine the best possible preservation of the muscle. The first month sets the rhythm, the rest adjusts.

The typical week of a men's cutting program

Four sessions which alternate upper and lower body, with heavy training at the start of the session and cardio placed at the end of the week so as not to interfere with strength.

4 séances par semaine. Les exercices, les charges, les séries et les temps de repos sont calculés selon votre niveau et le matériel dont vous disposez, puis ajustés à mesure que vous progressez.

From one week to the next, the objective is not to increase the loads but to maintain them: if they hold and the waistline goes down, the program is working.

Les repères

What makes a cutting phase last over time

Four parameters explain the majority of successful cuts, and the majority of those that fail.

A moderate calorie deficit

A moderate calorie deficit

Going 300 to 500 calories below your expenditure is enough to initiate fat loss. Cutting too hard and too quickly causes energy, strength and, very quickly, muscle mass to drop.

Protein with every meal

Protein with every meal

Approximately 1.8 to 2.2 g of protein per kilogram of body weight, spread over the day, protects the muscle during restriction. This is the only food item that cannot be negotiated during the cutting season.

Des charges maintenues

Des charges maintenues

Continuing to lift heavy tells the body that the muscle still serves a purpose. Reducing loads to increase light repetitions especially accelerates muscle loss.

Du cardio dosé

Du cardio dosé

Two to three weekly cardio sessions increase calorie expenditure without depleting recovery. Adding more becomes counterproductive if sleep and appetite deteriorate.

The program generated for you

muscu.pro builds your cutting program based on your level, your equipment and the number of possible sessions. Volume and sets adapt when your performance changes.

La séance guidée

La séance guidée

Each exercise is displayed with its loads, repetitions and rest timer. You follow the session without thinking about the plan, which matters when the energy is lower during the cutting period.

Le suivi de progression

Le suivi de progression

Loads, body weight and measurements are recorded session after session. You immediately see if the fat mass goes down while the strength is maintained.

Questions fréquentes

Questions fréquentes

How long does a cutting phase last?
Most cutting spells last eight to sixteen weeks. The duration depends mainly on your starting point: the higher the fat content, the longer the period. Better a moderate deficit maintained for a long time than a severe diet abandoned after three weeks. If fatigue sets in, a food break of a few days to balance it out often allows you to get going again.
A beginner's cutting program, is it a good idea?
Yes, as long as you remain patient. A beginner still progresses in strength even in deficit, which makes the period easier to live with. Start with three sessions per week on basic movements before adding cardio. The main thing is to learn the exercises correctly while the diet is taking place.
Can you follow a cutting program 3 times a week?
Quite. Three full body sessions spread over the week cover all muscle groups and allow time for recovery. You retain muscle with this volume, the loss of fat mainly comes from diet. Add one or two cardio sessions on rest days if calorie expenditure needs to increase.
Should you do cardio during the workout?
Cardio is not mandatory, but it helps. It allows you to increase calorie expenditure without further reducing portions, which makes the deficit more comfortable. Brisk walking, cycling or rowing are all suitable. Place these sessions after weight training or on a separate day to preserve the intensity of heavy work.
Does the program change for a woman?
The structure remains the same: loads maintained, high proteins, moderate deficit. The differences are in exercise preferences and starting level, not in exercise physiology. The protein requirement is also calculated per kilo of body weight. The program is then adjusted according to the frequency and equipment available.
